Hhmm?

Why is nobody talking?

I guess I'll start this off, then!

Where does your interest in ballet stem from? Do you find it beautiful? Wish you could dance but can't? Just like watching? Have you been taking classes for years? Just started? ect...

Personally, I'm pretty much all of the above! I've always found ballet to be breathtaking, I'm not very good at it, you know..wish I were more graceful, I do enjoy watching a good ballet, I've been taking classes twice a week for 3 years.

I really do love it, hard work and suffering that it is!

Yal, I just got this tribe started.
I've been dancing for a few years but I'm 33 and my body is struggling to meet demands. I still work right through it though!! I love it too!! I am fascinated (sp?) by Ballet and I would still pursue it somehow even if I didn't dance. .....through photography or something. I wish other members were allowed to post pics of themselves or their fave pics ....I'd love that.

My interest stems from childhood...I was taken to see Romeo and Juliet then The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center when I was ooooh...about 9 and 12. I *do* find it beautiful (lovingly thumbs through TRIBUTES...50th anniversary of the NYCB)..I( wish I could dance but cant (bad knees)....I love watching. I applied for a volunteer spot at NYCB some time ago...never heard from them.
Seeing a dancer do pointe can render me borderline speechless...and trust me that takes some doing ;) I saw the tribes featured photo and just gasped.

    Hello everyone!

I started dancing as a child (tap/jazz/ballet)and have been doing it ever since (24 years - ack!) I trained in the Royal Academy style and did exams and all that jazz - made it through all of my DES (but didn't do the majors) and am a student member of RAD. Was on pointe for several years (my feet are not pretty!) but eventually hung those up. My true love is Tap though and I teach all levels and ages. Still take one or two ballet classes a week, mostly for the workout and I enjoy the dicipline.

My entire life I have been a jock. I thought ballet looked fun and enrolled into it as a fourth grader, I was tall with big bones and huge, muscular legs-I still remember my teacher walking around checking our stance as she repeated "ballet is for the petite" she made me insecure so when basketball season rolled around I got the hell away from dance. Then after 4 years of rugby and almost 5 years of kickboxing I was in a bad car accident (my mustang got hit by a semi) and I was no longer able to do kickboxing :( My chiropractor told me ballet would be good for my back, so uneasily I signed up. I met some nice girls (who are greatest of friends to this day) who helped me out and made me comfortable-that was nearly 3 years ago and to this day I am in awe of ballet. My teacher has been trying to talk me into taking adv ballet (she's even holding my veggie tales cd hostage til i enroll) but I really enjoy taking it easy and having a lot of fun challenging my body and mind in cute lil pink tights :) and That is my entire stem of my ballet starting :D:D:D sorry

Thanks Kathy for starting this tribe. I've never really been a fan of Ballet until the last couple of years. I did go see The Nutcracker about 8 years ago and loved it but never really thought of it again, until recently.

I started really getting into burlesque about two years ago and auditioned with Kitty West, Catherine D'Lish and Dita Von Teese, I had no dance training at all. After the auditions I talked to Catherine and Dita and they both told me that I should start taking ballet classes so I signed up the following week. I have now been taking classes for the last 1.5 years and really do love it! I'm still really only learing the basics but I hope to start pointe classes by the end of the year.

hey! two people know each other? cool.
Well, any level of Ballet is good to do. I LOVE taking the very beginning ballet still! It's all so graceful. I love knowing my body is doing such a graceful thing and even the most simple ballet suits me fine.

Well I'm actually not a burlesque performer, yet. That was my first audition and I haven't had another opportunity. If I have time I may try to come up with something for the next tease-o-rama, we'll see. In the meantime I'm going to keep taking my ballet classes and work on getting better with that.

Im lucky in that theres a couple of Troupes here that are run by relative newbies themselves and they are quite good at giving new talent a shot. I perform regularly with them, plus freelancing for whatever I can get. Most of the people that have approached me have either seen my act or got it by word of mouth. Just be professional about it all..even when other people arent...and it DOES happen...and keep plugging away.
Keep in touch if you like.

Well I became interested in Ballet when I was like 4 years old, my mom put me in dance classes becasue she thought i was too shy and that dance would help me over come that. Well dance didnt really help with the shyness but i have been in love with ballet ever since. It is just such a beautiful thing to watch and be part of.

Let's see...My mom did ballet when she was little, and had a book or two about it. When I was a kid I'd always look at the pictures and do the stretches, and stuff. Then I started to watch musicals and copy all of the moves that the dancers did. (Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Leslie Coron...Even a version of the Nutcracker. If they danced, so did I!) So far I've done ballet, jazz, modern, and swing. I've danced Winter Guard, and now I *just* got into the ballroom scene: walzting, tango, cha-cha, whatever I can get people to teach me. Hehehe...But, man, do I loooove a fast polka!

Hehehehe...I did indeed say polka. I loooove them! There is no such thing as a polka that is "too fast." Although just recently I did a *very* fast polka in a corset that was pulled too tightly, and, man, was it hard to breathe. It's no wonder women were always fainting in those things!

(Sorry to the ballet crowd for our side conversation on pokas!)

I orginially got into ballet at age 10 because I was in gymnastics and my coach thought it would help with balance, and help control some of my excess energy. I also thought I could finally have time to meet some girls. Now, after 12 years I am primarily a ballet dancer, occassionally delve into jazz and haven't done much gymnastics since. I also never did get the girls... except as friends... only the boys seemed interested...

Principly, I love the feel of the music, and the wind after a piroette. I love flying through the air. It has become a passion for me, something not just my income, but more importantly my life depends on.

I had the chance as a child to watch Maya Plisietskaya dance with the Bolshoi Ballet in Mexico City , I fell in love with them ballerina's legs. I have been an avid , crazy ballet fan for the last seven years. Being in SF is freakin great , due to the simple fact that we have the best ballet company in the world.
The music is phenomenal , the athletism is unfreakinunbelievable, the ballerinas are absofrigginlutely fantasic and downright cosmic.
Okay , I admit , I'm obssesing but , believe it is worth it.
      Check 'em out.
      Thank You Kathy
